The Team at Probus Surgical Centre

We provide NHS assessment and surgery under local anaesthetic including hernias, carpal tunnel, vasectomy, trigger finger and skin surgery.

Less than 8 weeks waiting time for treatment, low infection rates, free parking, disabled access and CQC registered.

Our Clinical Director is Dr Guy Lin and Theatre Manager, Mrs Angela Le Ruez who are supported by a team of Doctors, Surgeons, Nurses and HCAs.  Our Administration Team is available from 8.30 am - 4.30 pm, Monday to Fridays throughout the year (except public holidays)

Patient Satisfaction

The quality of the service is monitored closely with high patient satisfaction, whilst the cost to the healthcare budgets in Cornwall is significantly less than elsewhere nationally.  A recent hernia survey resulted in 99% of patients happy with the service they received (scoring 8 to 10  = 10 being excellent).

National Leaders in Primary Care Surgery

Mr Raj Dhumale (President of the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care (ASPC) and Council Member of the Association of Surgeons in Great Briton and Ireland) along with Dr John Tisdale (Secretary for the ASPC) have over the last 5 years helped colleagues throughout the country and through charity work internationally helped many to develop their services.

Centre of Excellence

Mr Raj Dhumale and Dr John Tisdale, both of whom have won national awards for their innovation in primary care, lead the clinical team providing this pioneering service along with Mr Guy Lin (Clinical Director) and Miss Rachael Tyers. This multi skilled team, accredited by the PCT as Practitioners with a Special Surgical Interest (GPwSI) deliver a wide range of day case surgical procedures. In addition to this, a team of consultant surgeons from the local acute hospital are preparing to support us with a wide range of additional services.

Training for Primary Care Surgeons

We offer a range of training activities to support other centres around the country that wish to develop primary care surgical centres. Please contact the administration team for further information.

Care Quality Commission

The centre has been awarded unconditional CQC registration with the Care Quality Commission for the delivery of a range of regulated activities. Mr Guy Lin is the Clinical Director and Nominated Responsible Individual to support our registration. The centre has just been awarded a new surgical contract under the “any willing provider” scheme and will in the near future be offering a wider range of services.

All of our referrals are now handled by the Referral Management Service run by Kernow Health Community Interest Company. The average referral to treatment time is between 6 to 8 weeks and all our services are available as directly bookable appointments through Choose and Book. Access to our centre is easy with plenty of free patient parking. 

Disabled patients will find designated parking bays and easy access within our one-storey building.  The Centre is only approximately 8 miles away from either Truro or St Austell main line train stations and is also well served by local bus routes.
